JAKARTA - Iran hopes a new nuclear deal with the United States (US) can be simpler than the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), with two main elements being the lifting of sanctions and guarantees of Iran's peaceful nuclear program, said Iranian Foreign Minister (Menlu) Abbas Araghchi, Sunday (22/2).
"I believe a better deal than the JCPOA, or the 2015 nuclear deal, is possible, and there are elements that could be much better than the previous agreement," he said as quoted by Antara from Sputnik.
"I think right now there is no need for too many details. We can agree on the basics and ensure that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful and will remain peaceful forever, and at the same time more sanctions will be lifted," Araghchimen added.
Tehran also would not give up its sovereign right to enrich uranium as part of its national nuclear program, Araghchi said.
He stressed that diplomacy is the only way forward to reach an agreement.
"I believe there is still a good chance to reach a diplomatic solution based on the principle of mutual benefit, and the solution is within our reach. So, there is no need for an increase in military power, and military buildup will not help and cannot pressure us," said Araghchi.
