Cisunggalah River Embankment Bandung Jebol, 500 Residents' Houses Submerged In Floods

BANDUNG - High-intensity rain caused the embankment in the Cisunggalah River, Bandung, West Java to collapse. As a result, 500 houses in Solokan Jeruk sub-district were flooded.

Head of Prevention and Preparedness of BPBD Bandung Regency Hendra Hidayat said the flood occurred in RW 1 and RW 2 of Panyadap Village, Solokan Jeruk District. From that incident, there were around 1,762 people affected.

"That's temporary information, there were 20 lightly damaged and 9 heavily damaged houses," he said in Bandung, Wednesday, June 2.

In addition, two people were injured as a result of the incident. The two people, said Hendra, had been rushed to a local hospital.

So far, according to him, the Bandung Regency BPBD has carried out an assessment and coordinated with the village to handle the embankment.

Currently, the residents are making temporary embankments with sandbags and bamboo to hold water from the river so that it doesn't overflow into the residents' settlements.

"Currently, residents are unable to carry out their activities in their homes, even many houses are buried under the ground," he said.

Based on the latest monitoring, the water level in the area is still as high as 40 centimeters. Now the vehicle has returned to being able to pass through the area even though it has to break through the flood, said Hendra Hidayat.
