JAKARTA - The police have taken firm action against the illegal racing perpetrators who still defy appearing every month of Ramadan in Gorontalo.

Director of Traffic of the Gorontalo Police, Police Commissioner General Lukman Cahyono, said he had instructed his subordinates to carry out patrols to prevent the recurrence of illegal racing.

"The crackdown on this illegal racing activity is part of the Polri's efforts to provide services and a sense of security to the community, especially those who are currently fasting," said Lukman in Gorontalo, Saturday, quoted by Antara.

He ordered all ranks of the Highway Patrol Unit (PJR) to carry out patrols to locations that were considered prone to illegal racing activities.

As in previous ramadhan months, illegal racing activities are often carried out at midnight and after the morning prayer.

Although most of them were caught in raids and patrols and given firm action, the dangerous activity was still carried out when the police were not at the location.

Most of the perpetrators who were caught were still dominated by teenagers, even some were under the age of 17.

Illegal racing activities have been complained about by the community, because it threatens the safety of other road users.

Illegal racing is also complained about by residents because it disturbs the tranquility of the night rest, where most of the motorcycles used by the perpetrators use noisy exhausts.
