JAKARTA - A total of 57 fish processing units (UPI) can now export fishery products to Turkey and China.
This was confirmed by the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) after reaching an agreement with the competent authorities of Turkey (Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry) and China (General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China/GACC) for the issuance of approval numbers to a total of 57 UPI units proposed by the KKP.
"With the issuance of the approval number, 57 fishing businesses can carry out export activities of fish and other fishery products to Turkey and China," said Head of the Marine and Fishery Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (Badan Mutu KKP) Ishartini in an official statement in Jakarta, Saturday, February 21.
Ishartini explained that the proposal of a number of UPI by the KKP was not merely a submission of a list, but through technical verification and filling out a questionnaire required by the competent authorities of Turkey and China.
Thus, the proposed UPI has actually been certified HACCP and implements standards for sanitation, hygiene and food safety of fish.
He added, of the 56 UPI proposed by the Ministry of Forestry, 52 UPI have received approval numbers, while the rest are still in the verification process.
"Then for China, our proposal for five UPI was immediately approved, so a total of five UPI have received approval numbers from Chinese authorities," he said.
According to Ishartini, the proposal for approval number to Turkey is very important and urgent because the competent Turkish authorities will soon implement a new system for imports, namely the Approved Establishment System of the Republic of Türkiye or known as TROIS.
"Only companies that have been approved or given an approval number and are registered in the system can export fish and fishery products there," he said.
