BANDUNG - The West Java Regional Police has scheduled the repatriation of 13 West Javanese women who are suspected of being victims of human trafficking (TPPO) in the Sikka Regency area, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Head of Public Relations of West Java Police, Kombes Hendra Rochmawan, said that the repatriation step was being prepared carefully with the local government so that the process could run smoothly without disturbing the investigation being carried out by the local police.

"The Police Chief through the Women and Children Protection Unit ensures that the repatriation goes well and supports the legal process which is currently handled by the Sikka Police," said Hendra as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, February 20.

He explained that the case began with the posting of a social media post by an employee of a nightclub in Sikka who claimed to have experienced physical threats and verbal violence.

Following up on the information, the police raided the location and found 13 West Javanese women working there.

"The majority of workers are known to be over 17 years old, but the authorities are still investigating the possibility of underage victims," he said.

He said the West Java Police also coordinated with the community-based organizations in NTT to provide initial protection to the victims while waiting for the repatriation process.

Based on the initial investigation, he said, the workers were allegedly recruited by the high-paying salary of around Rp8-10 million per month.

"The victim was also burdened with a difficult target to achieve accompanied by fines, which resulted in alleged exploitation, restraint, physical threats, and violence when the perpetrator was under the influence of alcohol," he said.
