JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno is preparing a vaccine tour package policy in Indonesia. This program is similar to what happened in the United States.

"In the last two weeks, vaccine-based tourism promotions have been circulating in America or other destinations at prices that we think are quite affordable for the upper middle class," said Sandiaga in a virtual Weekly Briefing, Wednesday, June 2.

From that information, there were business actors who offered a proposal for a vaccine tour package in Indonesia to Sandiaga.

"We got a proposal from several tourist actors who asked, maybe it wasn't made like that in Indonesia," he continued.

That way, the potential of people who want to get vaccines can be directed to tourist destinations such as Bali, Bintan, or Batam.

"We are discussing this in detail as well, because unfortunately the extraordinary potential of Indonesian people who want to get vaccines must pay at the same time as travel," he said, adding that this proposal was being discussed by relevant stakeholders.

"This is what we will try to discuss for coordination, in the concept that vaccines are a public good, given free of charge, do not discriminate but can be wrapped in a package of tour packages that also encourage tourism in several destinations that really need tourist visits," added Sandiaga.

He hopes this program can make tourists continue to choose Indonesia as their tourist destination.

"We don't want there to be leaks of tourists, who previously didn't want to go anywhere, just wanted to go to Indonesia, but because there was an interesting vaccine package, for example to America yesterday, they finally flocked to access the possibility of getting vaccines as well as traveling," said Sandiaga.
