JAKARTA - Candra Aryadinata did not expect the perpetrator of the theft in his house to be the person who was known to be close to the family. The man with the initials FIM (24), who is the boyfriend of his daughter Selvi (19), was arrested after allegedly breaking into the victim's house and taking away money and gold jewelry worth Rp. 400 million.
"He often came to the house and I already considered him the closest person, but he dared to do this," said Candra Aryadinata in Jakarta, Wednesday.
According to Candra, the perpetrator often visited the house and was treated well by the family. In fact, Selvi's parents routinely sent food, while Selvi was said to give pocket money to FIM almost every day.
"He doesn't work and is indeed in contact with my child," said Candra.
Candra explained that since installing surveillance cameras (CCTV) inside the house, the perpetrator has started to come less often. The CCTV was originally installed to monitor his child's activities.
"Before there was CCTV, he was almost every day at home," he said.
The victim's house is known to be often empty during the day because Candra works at his catering business which is about 100 meters from the house. The perpetrator is suspected of taking advantage of the situation. In addition to knowing the position of the camera, FIM has also held the key to the house for a month before the incident.
"I didn't suspect it at first, but after watching the footage, I realized he was the culprit," said Candra.
He called the incident a great lesson to be more careful in trusting others. "The person I thought was good could steal. I want him to be punished," he said.
Selvi confirmed that he had been dating FIM for one year and two months. He also revealed that FIM did not have a job.
"I'm still a high school student in grade XII and he's finished, but he doesn't work. He works on games and sleeps," said Selvi.
Selvi said that he regularly sent money of around Rp. 50 thousand per day to the perpetrator for snacks. The family also often sends food.
What made Selvi even more surprised, FIM had asked about CCTV before the incident. "He once asked, if the switch was turned off, would the CCTV be turned off or not," he said.
When he found out that his house had been broken into, Selvi contacted FIM. However, the perpetrator acted as if he didn't know anything.
This case was revealed by the Pademangan Police. The head of the Pademangan Police, Imanuel Sinaga, said the perpetrator was arrested within hours of receiving the report.
"We arrested the perpetrator within hours after the victim realized the theft," said Imanuel, accompanied by Muhaiyin Ikhsan's Criminal Investigation Unit.
Police said the theft had been planned. The perpetrator carried out the action when the house was empty and the victim was at the catering business location.
"The perpetrator often visits the victim's house, knows the camera point, and already has the house key," explained Imanuel.
Currently, FIM has been secured to undergo further legal proceedings.
