JAKARTA - The condition of Blok M Hub which feels hot and stuffy is complained about by a number of visitors on social media. The complaint mainly arises when the area is crowded with residents during rush hours and weekends.

The Special Staff of the Governor of DKI Jakarta for Social Communication, Chico Hakim, confirmed the complaint. According to him, the problem of temperature in the area is influenced by the design of the building and the high number of visitors.

"Complaints about hot and stuffy areas are indeed widely discussed, especially when the area is crowded with visitors. This is due to the transparent roof design that allows sunlight to enter as well as the high volume of visitors," Chico told reporters, Friday, February 13.

He said the DKI Provincial Government had asked PT MRT Jakarta as the manager to immediately carry out repairs to the air conditioning and circulation systems.

Chico added that the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung since 2025 has ordered a thorough repair, including through an auction to repair the mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) system at Blok M Hub.

"Currently, the process of repairing and adding AC units is underway so that the temperature is cooler and the air is not stuffy. We are also evaluating the overall design for the addition of natural ventilation and additional shading for better long-term comfort," he said.

The DKI Provincial Government together with PT MRT Jakarta will also conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the design and facilities of the area.

"We also encourage the public to remain vigilant, guard their belongings, and report suspicious incidents through the call center or officers at the location," said Chico.

Head of the Corporate Secretary Division of PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) Rendy Primartantyo said that since officially managing Blok M Hub on January 1, 2025, the arrangement of the area has been carried out gradually.

According to him, the improvement of hygiene standards is carried out by increasing the frequency of cleaning and routine supervision. Physical improvements such as floor renovation, ceiling, and repainting are also carried out.

The revitalization of sanitation facilities is also being worked on, including the renovation of the terminal lobby toilet which is targeted to be completed in May 2026 as well as the provision of premium toilets. Regarding the heat and air circulation, MRT Jakarta admitted that it had carried out technical mapping and improvements to the cooling system.

"Following up on input related to heat and air circulation, MRT Jakarta has carried out technical mapping and improvement of the cooling system which is now operating and monitored periodically, especially during high visitation hours," said Rendy.

In terms of security, MRT Jakarta has increased the number of surveillance cameras from 16 to 51 points in strategic areas. Security officers also guard every day during operating hours, conduct routine patrols, and coordinate with law enforcement officers.

"We also urge visitors to remain vigilant and guard their personal belongings when in crowded public areas," he concluded.
