JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has prepared a number of mitigation steps to anticipate potential disasters during the 2026 Eid al-Fitr holiday period. Preparedness is focused on the homecoming route and tourist destinations that are predicted to experience a surge in mobility of up to 100 million people.

Deputy for Systems and Strategy of BNPB, Raditya Jati, conveyed this at the Ministerial Level Meeting at the Office of the Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Culture (Kemenko PMK), Jakarta, Thursday, February 12.

According to Raditya, the high mobility of the community during the homecoming has the potential to increase the risk of disasters, especially in areas prone to hydrometeorological threats such as floods and landslides, as well as geological threats.

"BNPB has prepared disaster mitigation steps during the 2026 Idulfitri holiday period, especially in areas with potential hydrometeorological and geological threats. We don't want high community mobility to increase the risk if it is not anticipated early," he said.

BNPB will use the InaRISK platform to map potential disaster risks in the homecoming route and tourist areas. In addition, the agency also prepares a map of safe disaster homecoming routes as a guide for local governments and the community.

Circular letters will also be issued to local governments to increase preparedness, including the preparation of operational plans, equipment titles, and weather modification operation implementation options if necessary.

BNPB together with the BPBD in the region will deploy monitoring teams led by officials at the I-level to a number of points with the potential for a surge in community activities, such as rest areas, terminals, ports, airports, and tourist areas.

"Our team will conduct direct monitoring in the field so that a response can be carried out quickly if an emergency occurs. The principle is prevention and readiness for response," said Raditya.

He also appealed to the public to actively monitor weather forecast information from authorized agencies, understand the evacuation route along the way, and ensure the condition of vehicles and family health before departure.

"Safety is a shared responsibility. We hope that the community will also play an active role in reducing risks by preparing for the journey properly," he said.
