JAKARTA - The bodies of Smart Air pilot Capt. Enggon and co-pilot Capt. Baskoro, victims of the shooting of a group of armed criminals (KKB) at Korowai Airport from Tanah Merah, Doven Digoel Regency, South Papua, were flown to Jakarta this afternoon.

IPI General Aviation Technical Director, Capt Willy Resoeboen said the two bodies have now been evacuated by the TNI/Polri joint team.

Since this morning, the body has been flown to Jakarta with arrival at around 16.54 WIB via the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Soetta) Cargo Terminal, Tangerang, Banten.

"The body was evacuated from Korowai Batu Airport to Timika this morning. Then, an autopsy was carried out in Timika. Now it is on its way to Soetta International Airport, Tangerang," he said as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 12.

He said that in the pick-up of the two pilot bodies, the Indonesian Pilot Association (IPI) would carry out the last honor ceremony first at the Soetta Airport Cargo Terminal before being handed over to the family.

"The plan is for us to hold a tribute ceremony at the Soetta Airport Cargo Terminal by IPI, before being sent back to the funeral home," he said.

The body of Capt. Egon Erawan will be immediately handed over to the family at Jalan Flamboyan Lestari No. 15A (Block G2) Rempoa, Ciputat Timur, South Tangerang.

Meanwhile, the body of Capt. Baskoro will be handed over to the company where the deceased worked before being returned to the family.

"For Capt. Egon, after the airport he will be taken to the funeral home in Ciputat, then buried at the Tanah Kusir TPU. As for Capt. Baskoro, the plan is only Friday," he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Indonesian Pilots Association (IPI) Capt. Muammar Reza condemned and strongly condemned the shooting incident carried out by a group of armed criminals (KKB) against a Smart Air pilot while landing at Korowai Airport from Tanah Merah, Doven Digoel Regency, South Papua.

"The Indonesian Pilot Association condemns and strongly condemns this heartbreaking tragedy (the shooting of a Smart Air pilot) which has attracted attention, not only at the national level, but also internationally," he said.

He considered that the actions taken by the KKB were a serious violation of the 2009 Flight Law Number 1, especially Chapter XIV on Flight Safety, and violated the ICAO Annex 17 international rules on security and a serious violation of the 1944 Chicago Convention which regulates flight safety.

"Aviation is a strategic national transportation mode that is vital for Indonesia, which connects the geography of Indonesia as a unitary state, plays a role in meeting the mobility needs of the community as well as meeting the needs of food, medicine and the wheels of the economy to all corners of the country," he explained.

In connection with this tragedy, the Indonesian Pilots Association urges President Prabowo Subianto to pay special attention to act immediately and intervene in restoring, guaranteeing and ensuring flight safety in areas with high security risks.

Because, said Reza, pilots as air transportation duty bearers must be protected by the state in carrying out their duties.

"Including aviation infrastructure within it, namely airports which are national vital objects that must be protected from all security disturbances based on Presidential Decree Number 63 of 2004," he said.

His party also asked the National Aviation Safety Committee (KNKP) to immediately take concrete steps in prevention in the form of the suspension of operations at airports with high security risks, until the safety of aviation in the country is guaranteed again.

"We appeal to all Indonesian pilots, especially those serving in areas with high security risks, to increase vigilance and care for each other in situations like this," he said.

His party hopes that this tragedy is the last in the history of aviation in Indonesia. Although all related institutions will conduct a joint evaluation to realize safe and peaceful aviation.

"We convey our deepest sympathy and empathy to the victims' families, may the two deceased be given the most noble place by God Almighty," he said.
