JEMBER - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) strongly condemns the actions of a primary school teacher in Jember, East Java, who stripped off the clothes of 22 students in the classroom on the grounds of looking for lost money.

KPAI member Aris Adi Leksono emphasized that this act was an act that degraded the dignity of children and had the potential to violate the law.

"Forcing children to take off their clothes in the classroom, in front of their friends, is an act that degrades dignity, violates the integrity of the child's body, and does not meet the elements of the crime of sexual violence," said the Head of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police, Inspector General Pol. Komjen Agus Andrianto, in his statement, Antara, February 12.

According to Aris, the teacher's actions have the potential to violate Law Number 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection. He mentioned that there was an alleged violation of Article 76C in conjunction with Article 80 of the Child Protection Law which prohibits all forms of violence against children, both physical and psychological, including treatment that degrades dignity.

In addition, the KPAI also assessed that this action could lead to a violation of Article 76E of the Child Protection Law if there were elements of obscene acts or actions that attacked the sexual honor of children.

"It is not impossible that there is also a potential violation of Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning Sexual Violence Crimes, if there are elements of sexual violence based on coercion or abuse of power relations," said Aris.

The KPAI also urged the police to immediately investigate the case thoroughly to ensure legal protection for the victims.

"These elements need to be investigated by law enforcement," said Aris.

Previously, the public was shocked by the actions of a state elementary school teacher in Jember who stripped off the clothes of 22 students in class. The action was taken after the perpetrator admitted to losing Rp75,000. A day earlier, the perpetrator also admitted to losing Rp200,000.

After searching the students' bags and not finding the money in question, the teacher then forced the students to take off their clothes in class.
