JAKARTA - The prices of a number of staple goods at the Tomang Barat Traditional Market, Grogol Petamburan, West Jakarta, skyrocketed ahead of the Chinese New Year and Ramadan.

A chicken egg trader named Luki admitted that the price of eggs, which was previously Rp28 thousand, has now risen to Rp32 thousand per kilogram (kg).

"The price of chicken eggs is Rp32 thousand per kg, rising ahead of Chinese New Year," said Luki, ANTARA, Wednesday.

Despite the rising price of eggs, sales ahead of Chinese New Year and Ramadan have so far not decreased.

"In fact, there are still many who buy, because maybe the need is also times, right, to make cakes," he said.

Luki also predicts that the price of chicken eggs will fall again about three days before fasting, then rise again before Lebaran.

But usually it will rise again before Lebaran.

"Before Lebaran, usually the price will rise again, the prediction is Rp30 thousand more per kilogram," he said.

Meanwhile, vegetable trader, Sri Rahayu said that the price of red sweet peas had also increased for almost a week.

"The one who went up red chili, now sells Rp. 100 to Rp. 110 thousand per kg," said Sri.

Meanwhile, for other types of chili, it is still normal.

Curly red chilies are sold for Rp50-60 thousand per kilogram, large red chilies for Rp50 thousand per kilogram, large ijo chilies for Rp40 thousand per kilogram, curly ijo chilies for Rp40 thousand per kilogram, and ijo sweet peas for Rp60 thousand per kilogram.

Sri said that in addition to red shallots, the price increase also occurred in red onion commodities which are currently sold for Rp. 60 thousand per kilogram.

Meanwhile, red onions are Rp60 thousand per kilogram. "Usually it's Rp50 thousand per kilogram, it hasn't gone up in a week. Garlic is normal Rp40-45 thousand per kilogram," he said.

Another vegetable trader, Partini, revealed that the price increase also occurred in the types of spinach and caisim. For the price of spinach is currently Rp10 thousand per bundle, and caisim reaches Rp18 thousand per bundle.

"Spinach is normal price only Rp. 3 thousand per bundle, if it is a caisim, it is usually only Rp. 10 thousand per bundle," he said.

He admitted that the price increase did not have much impact on his turnover, because traders followed market prices. If the price goes up like now, then traders will raise the price of the goods.

"Most of the consumers have reduced the number of purchases, they usually buy one kilo so they only buy half a kilo," he said.
