JAKARTA - The Indonesian Public Institute (IPI) released the results of the latest survey which showed a number of new faces began to enliven the presidential candidate exchange for the 2029 Election. Including, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, a number of Governors to Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa.

In a presentation titled 'Map of Presidential Candidate's Popularity 2029' in Jakarta, Monday, February 9, IPI researcher Abdan Sakura revealed the names of potential candidates who are in the top 10 top figures.

"Based on our latest survey results, a number of new faces are on the presidential exchange list for 2029, such as Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung, Governor of North Maluku Sherly Tjoanda, Governor of West Java Dedi Mulyadi to Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa," said Abdan in his statement.

Based on IPI data, Defense Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin is in seventh place with an electability rate of 7.5 percent. Meanwhile, Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa garnered 4.9 percent and Sherly Tjoanda 3.8 percent.

Sjafrie's electability was recorded to compete closely with a number of regional heads. Anies Baswedan was in fourth place with 8.5 percent, followed by Dedi Mulyadi 7.9 percent, and Pramono Anung 7.8 percent.

Abdan explained that the emergence of these new faces was influenced by factors such as leadership, reputation, track record, media publication, and integrity.

"Figures such as Pramono Anung, Dedi Mulyadi, and Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin appear as potential figures who have received a fairly strong assessment of eligibility, although they have not yet been fully converted into electoral support," explained Abdan.

However, the top position in electability is still dominated by the main figures. Prabowo Subianto leads with 22.3 percent, followed by Gibran Rakabuming Raka 12.2 percent, and Ganjar Pranowo 9 percent.

"Big names still dominate public perception, showing the strong influence of power, elite continuity, and media exposure in the imagination of voters," concluded Abdan.

The IPI survey was conducted from January 30 to February 5, 2026, involving 1,241 respondents aged 17 to 65 years in 35 provinces. The research uses the Multistage Random Sampling technique with a margin of error of 2.78 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.
