JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asked the public, especially motor vehicle users, to avoid potholes and damaged roads in Jakarta which often occur during the rainy season.

This is related to the accident of a student whose vehicle hit a pothole until he died on Jalan Matraman Raya, East Jakarta, this morning.

Pramono also ordered his students to socialize the call for caution to the public more massively.

"We ask the public to be reminded many times, the Jakarta Information and Communication Technology Office, there are indeed several roads that are potholed and that please be careful," said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall, Monday, February 9.

Pramono ensured that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government would bear all the costs of the victims, from treatment at the hospital to the funeral. The victim was known as Aldi Surya Putra, a student at SMK Negeri 34 Jakarta, who was involved in an accident while driving to school.

"Innalilahi wa inna ilaihi rajiun, I represent the DKI Jakarta Province in mourning the death of my brother Aldi Surya Putra, a student at SMK 34 Jakarta who was involved in a traffic accident this morning," said Pramono.

"The hospital costs are fully borne by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. We have also prepared a funeral prepared by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government at the Menteng Pulo TPU," he continued.

Pramono confirmed that the accident occurred due to slippery and potholed road conditions, as well as vehicles traveling at high speeds.

"We have monitored the results of CCTV. The cause of the accident was the slippery and potholed road then passed at high speed. So this is a single accident," explained Pramono.

After the incident, the victim was rushed to the Police Hospital with the assistance of the Head of the DKI Jakarta Education Service and the school. However, the victim's life was not saved.

Responding to the incident, Pramono has ordered the DKI Jakarta Road Construction Service to immediately close all pothole roads in Jakarta, even if it is temporary.

Since the beginning of January, it is acknowledged that the DKI Provincial Government has carried out temporary repairs of roads that are potholed and damaged with patches. The permanent repair will be carried out when the rainy season has subsided.

"Even though the estimated date is February 18-19, the rainfall is still uncertain, sometimes high, I have asked all the roads that are potholes to be closed even though they are temporary," he said.
