PADANG LAWAS UTARA - The Natural Disaster Management Task Force (Gulbencal) of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan has completed the rehabilitation of a suspension bridge in North Padang Lawas Regency, North Sumatra, which serves as a link between districts in the region.

Head of Information of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan, Colonel Inf Asrul Kurniawan Harahap said that the suspension bridge connects Purba Sinomba Village with Pagaran Tonga Village, Padang Bolak District.

"The bridge is a link between Purba Sinomba Village and Pagaran Tonga Village, Padang Bolak District," said Asrul in Medan, Antara, Sunday, February 8.

According to Asrul, the rehabilitation of this bridge is a manifestation of the commitment of the Indonesian Army through the Gulbencal Task Force of Kodam I/Bukit Barisan in assisting the local government and the community, especially in the post-disaster infrastructure recovery.

"We hope that this bridge can be optimally utilized by residents and provide a sense of safety and comfort in daily activities," he said.

He explained that the rehabilitation activities were carried out by the Task Force Koramil 05/Padang Bolak Kodim 0212/South Tapanuli together with personnel from the Building Zeni Detachment (Denzibang), workers, and local people.

Since the beginning of the implementation, the work has focused on restoring the bridge structure to increase the aspects of safety and comfort for users.

"Since the beginning of the activity, the focus of the repair is on the restoration of the bridge structure so that it is safer and more comfortable to pass through," said Asrul.

The work that has been completed includes installing the floor, replacing the bridge floor with iron plates, and painting the bridge posts and railings. All the old floor boards that had previously been weathered were also completely replaced to strengthen the bridge construction.

The suspension bridge, which was built since 1979, has a length of about 72 meters and a width of 1.80 meters. The existence of this bridge is a vital access for the people of Padang Bolak District because it supports the mobility of residents, social activities, and inter-district economy.
