BANYUWANGI - The Banyuwangi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), East Java, recorded that as many as 52 residents' houses in four villages suffered minor to major damage due to strong winds.
The Head of the BPBD Banyuwangi Implementation Team, Partana, said that the strong wind event occurred on Saturday afternoon and hit Karangsari Village, Temuguruh Village, and Temuasri Village in Sempu District.
In addition, the impact of strong winds was also felt by residents of Tembokrejo Village, Muncar District.
"In addition to the three villages in Sempu District, strong winds also damaged a number of houses in Tembokrejo Village, Muncar District," said Partana in Banyuwangi, Antara, Sunday, February 8.
According to Partana, the most affected area is in Sempu District with a total of 49 residents' houses and six chicken coops spread across three villages. Meanwhile, the most severe damage occurred in Tembokrejo Village, Muncar District, where a number of residents' roofs were blown away by the wind.
In fact, two residents' houses in Temuguruh Village were reported to have suffered heavy damage after the kitchen collapsed.
"The damage varies, ranging from minor to severe, but the majority suffered minor damage to the roof," he said.
The results of the BPBD assessment also noted that the impact of the hydrometeorological disaster caused the power grid to be cut off. As a result, nine residents' houses in Tembokrejo Village had experienced power outages. This condition has now been handled by PLN after receiving a report from BPBD.
Partana ensured that there were no casualties in the incident. Since Saturday night, BPBD together with volunteers and the TNI and Polri have moved to help the affected residents while ensuring that their basic needs are met.
"Saturday night we immediately distributed the initial phase of assistance in the form of food and tarpaulins. Today we are also conducting data collection for the second phase of assistance such as blankets, folding mattresses, mattresses, even baby assistance packages if there are small children," he said.
In addition, BPBD is still listing other needs needed by residents, including asbestos, wood, and other building materials to help repair houses damaged by strong winds.
