PACITAN - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Pacitan Regency, East Java, carried out monitoring and initial data collection on the impact of a magnitude 6.4 earthquake that occurred on Friday, February 6 at 01.10 WIB.

Head of the BPBD Pacitan, Erwin Andriatmoko, said that until now there were two buildings that were reported to have been damaged by the earthquake which was centered in the shallow sea about 89 kilometers southeast of Pacitan.

"Currently, it is still in the monitoring and data collection phase. Initial information is that there are reports of building damage," said Erwin, quoted by Antara on Friday morning.

The damage was reported in the Kebon Neighborhood, Ploso Village, Pacitan District, in the form of a partially collapsed residents' house. Similar reports also came from Kembang Village which borders Ploso as well as Kedungbendo Village in Arjosari District.

BPBD has sent officers to the field to conduct assessments to determine the level of damage and the impact of the earthquake.

According to Erwin, the strong shaking has the potential to cause damage, especially to houses with non-permanent structures.

As of Friday morning, there were no reports of casualties or injuries. The data collection process is still ongoing.

Based on data from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake occurred at coordinates 8.89 degrees South Latitude and 111.18 degrees East Longitude with a depth of 10 kilometers. The earthquake is confirmed not to have the potential for a tsunami.

The local government appealed to the public to remain calm, be alert to the possibility of aftershocks, and immediately report building damage that could potentially endanger safety.
