BANDUNG - Residents of Maruyung Village tried to catch a leopard (Panthera pardus melas) that entered the residential area in Pacet District, Bandung Regency, West Java, on Thursday morning and injured two local residents.

The head of Maruyung Village, Apen Supendi, said the appearance of the leopard was first reported by residents in the morning and had caused panic in the surrounding area.

"We received reports from residents regarding the presence of a leopard that entered the village area. Based on initial monitoring, the size of the animal is quite large, about the size of an adult goat," he said when confirmed, reported by ANTARA, Thursday, February 5.

The incident resulted in two residents being injured due to the bite and bite of the protected wildlife.

"We immediately evacuated the two victims to the nearest health center to receive medical treatment. Currently, his condition is stable," he said.

The Maruyung Village Government together with local authorities immediately coordinated with the West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) for further handling.

The village head appealed to the public to remain vigilant and limit activities outside the home, especially around the last location where the animal was seen.

"We ask residents not to approach the location and remain calm so as not to trigger the aggressive nature of the wildlife," he said.

As of Thursday afternoon, joint officers were still conducting a search around the settlement to secure the leopard so that it would not endanger residents or the animals themselves.
