Jokowi Showcases Indonesia's Green Economy Breakthrough At The Global Level

JAKARTA - Like it or not, the world is facing a serious threat in the form of climate change, which is exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has yet to be clear.

Therefore, unusual ways are needed in efforts to develop a green economy through green development at the wider global world level.

Indonesia through President Joko Widodo has firmly encouraged the P4G - Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 initiative to take extraordinary steps in an effort to realize sustainable development.

According to Jokowi, the P4G - Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 initiative cannot be carried out "business as usual". The world has to do it in extraordinary ways. The partnership between stakeholders is the key to ensure that economic activities, production and consumption are carried out in a sustainable manner.

The threat of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic reminds all countries to be more serious in developing sustainable, inclusive and resilient development.

For this reason, the P4G Partnering for Green Growth and Global Goals 2030 initiative cannot be carried out in an ordinary way, but must be carried out in an extraordinary way.

President Jokowi views that fundamental steps to ensure the achievement of green development at the global level must be carried out.

First, realizing an "enabling environment" that encourages synergies between investment and job creation with green development.

Indonesia has implemented a low-carbon development plan which is an integral part of the national medium-term development plan. Indonesia has also launched the Job Creation Law as a form of Indonesia's commitment so that the economic and social progress of the community does not harm the environment.

Second, encourage innovation in mobilizing supporting resources for the implementation of green growth.

According to President Jokowi, as reported by Antara, Monday, May 31, the availability of financial support and technology transfer is the key to success for green development, for carbon neutrality. Therefore, Jokowi continued, Indonesia is open to investment and technology transfer.

Indonesia is developing the largest green industrial area in the world, in North Kalimantan, which has great potential in developing renewable energy. Indonesia also has a vision to build a carbon market and will become the owner of the largest carbon stock in the world.

Third, President Jokowi views that every country needs to strengthen concrete cooperation that can be implemented immediately and can be sustainable. According to him, protectionism under the guise of environmental issues should be avoided. The pro-environmental parameters must be clear, and run honestly and transparently.

Cooperation and joint efforts to solve common problems are fundamental conditions for the success of a green economy, especially at a time when the world is recovering from the current pandemic. Indonesia is highly committed to working with the world to create a more sustainable, inclusive and resilient life.
