Embung Kebagusan Area to be Equipped with Sports Facilities

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) plans to build public spaces, such as parks and sports facilities in the Embung Kebagusan area, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

"In addition to being a reservoir in flood control, this reservoir or pond also serves as a public space. The plan is, there is a park, there is a playground, there are sports facilities, there is a mini football field," said Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno as reported by ANTARA, Friday, January 30.

Embung Kebagusan is located on Jalan Baung, Kebagusan Village, Pasar Minggu District, or behind the Kebagusan City apartment, with a total area of about two hectares.

The pond is located on land owned by the DKI Jakarta Water Resources Service with an area of 1.3 hectares and the DKI Jakarta Parks and Forestry Service with an area of 1 hectare.

From the total area of the pond, about 0.5 hectares will be used for public spaces and 0.7 hectares for green areas.

"With this EmbungKebagusan, for flooding, we can manage to become flood control. But when it doesn't rain, it can be used by residents, at least as a sports center," said Rano.

Embung Kebagusan was built to reduce flood discharge in the Joe connecting channel flow system (Mampang-Krukut River system) by about 2.3 percent.

If the water discharge in the Joe connecting channel flow system is originally 30.07 cubic meters per second, then the pond can reduce the water discharge to 29.38 cubic meters per second.

The construction of the pond, which cost around Rp62 billion, is targeted to be completed by the end of 2026.
