Half Meter Flood Disrupts Current in Panjaitan, 17 RT Jakarta Follow Immersed

Jakarta - Flooding of about 50 centimeters (cm) inundated Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jatinegara, East Jakarta (Jaktim), since Thursday, January 29 morning.

The flood equivalent to the calf of an adult had an impact on slowing down traffic flow on one of the main roads connecting East Jakarta with the surrounding area.

"The water level on Jalan DI Panjaitan is about 50 centimeters, about 50 centimeters," said East Jakarta Transportation Office Officer Agus on Jalan DI Panjaitan, Jatinegara, East Jakarta, quoted by Antara Thursday morning.

He said the flood occurred due to heavy rain that hit the Jakarta area from Wednesday (28/1) night to Thursday morning.

The high rainfall then caused the water to overflow and flood the road, disrupting the activities of residents, especially during rush hour.

Moreover, the drainage system at the location is not operating optimally so that it is not able to hold the high volume of water.

"Because it was really heavy and long rain, from last night until this morning, so it was flooded," said Agus.

According to him, the flood made vehicles, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled, have to drive slowly.

This condition also triggered traffic congestion with a pattern of vehicles moving slowly, especially considering the volume of vehicles increased during the morning rush hour.

"Traffic is dense because it coincides with working hours. Many drivers still pass even though they have to reduce speed," said Agus.

Meanwhile, officers from the East Jakarta Transportation Service have been deployed to the location to carry out traffic arrangements and help smooth vehicle traffic.

In addition, officers also appeal to motorists to be careful when crossing puddles, especially for motorcycle riders, to avoid the risk of vehicle breakdowns or accidents.

Agus added that his party continued to coordinate with related agencies to monitor the development of flood conditions and carry out traffic engineering if necessary.

Drivers are also advised to look for alternative routes if the water does not recede. Until now, water is still flooding a number of points on Jalan DI Panjaitan.

Officers are also still on standby in the field while waiting for the weather to improve and the water to gradually recede.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) reported that as many as 17 neighborhood units (RT) in East Jakarta (Jaktim) and West Jakarta (Jakbar) were flooded with water levels ranging from 30 cm to 1.5 meters.

"We appeal to the public to remain vigilant and vigilant against the potential of flooding," said Head of the BPBD Disaster Data and Information Center, Mohamad Yohan in Jakarta, Monday, May 31.

According to him, the flood that submerged a number of residential areas in the two areas was caused by heavy rain that hit Jakarta and its surroundings on Wednesday (28/1), causing the water level in the Katulampa Dam to rise to Alert/Alert 3.

Then, continued Yohan, several monitoring posts also showed an increase in water discharge, causing the Ciliwung and Pesanggrahan rivers to overflow and causing 17 RT to be flooded.

Regarding the height of the water entering the residential area, he said, especially in East Jakarta, it reached 1.3-1.5 meters while in West Jakarta the average was 30 cm.
