Coordinating Minister Yusril: Appointment of Adies Kadir as Jakim MK Candidate DPR Authority

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the appointment of former Deputy Speaker of the DPR Adies Kadir as a Constitutional Court judge was the authority of the DPR.

Yusril explained that there were nine judges in the ranks of the Constitutional Court, namely three each from the president's proposal, the Supreme Court, and the House of Representatives.

"Regarding the DPR's decision to nominate a candidate for constitutional judge, it is entirely the authority of the DPR. The government cannot comment," said Yusril as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 28.

Yusril explained that the election of Adies as a Constitutional Court judge replaced Arief Hidayat who had completed his term of office. Arief is also a constitutional judge who comes from the DPR's proposal.

Therefore, the government respects the DPR's decision regarding the election of the Constitutional Court judges. Likewise, for the internal process of selecting the replacement candidate if there is a change.

In addition, Yusril emphasized that the inauguration of constitutional judges is also the authority of the Constitutional Court entirely, so it cannot be interfered with by the government.

Previously, the 12th Plenary Meeting of the 2025-2026 Session Year Session III approved Adies Kadir, who was previously the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI, to become a Constitutional Judge at the Constitutional Court (MK) from the DPR RI institution.

"Can it be approved?" said Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Saan Mustopa when presiding over a plenary meeting which was answered in the affirmative by members of the House of Representatives who were present at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Tuesday (27/1).

In addition, the plenary meeting also agreed to revoke the DPR RI Decree Number 11/DPR/1/2025-2026 concerning the DPR's approval of the replacement of constitutional judges, who had previously nominated Inosentius Samsul.

After being approved, Saan also invited Adies Kadir to the front area of the plenary meeting podium to be introduced as a candidate for Constitutional Court Judge.

The nomination of Adies was made to replace MK Judge Arief Hidayat who will soon retire.
