JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto revealed his hopes for the Palestinian people in Gaza after Indonesia officially joined as a member of the Board of Peace (Board of Peace) which is the result of an initiative from US President Donald Trump.

The launch of the Gaza Peace Council was held by President Trump at the Congress Hall, the location of the 2026 World Economic Forum (WEF) event in the city of Davos, Switzerland, Thursday, January 22.

During the procession, President Prabowo also signed the Charter of the Peace Council with President Trump, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, and other member country leaders.

"I think this is a historic opportunity. This is a historic opportunity. This is really an opportunity to achieve peace in Gaza," said President Prabowo, quoted by ANTARA.

"What is clear is that the suffering of the people in Gaza has been reduced, greatly reduced. Humanitarian aid is so large, so fast. I really hope, and Indonesia is ready to participate," said Prabowo.

According to Prabowo, the countries that are members of the Peace Council are those who want to help the Palestinian people in Gaza. These countries are also those who want peace in Gaza.

"Who wants peace (there, red.), who wants to help the people of Gaza, the Palestinian people (there in the council, red.)," said President Prabowo in response to a journalist's question.

President Prabowo attended the launch of the Peace Council, and also signed the Peace Council charter with President Trump.

Not only Indonesia, other countries that also signed the Peace Council charter include Hungary, Bahrain, Morocco, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, the Republic of Kosovo, Mongolia, Pakistan, Paraguay, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Uzbekistan.

In the event, President Trump accompanied it by giving a speech explaining the purpose of forming the Peace Council. Then, President Trump along with a number of heads of state signed the Peace Council charter, which marked the organization's official establishment.

After that, two officials from the US explained recovery plans in Gaza, including plans to build Gaza as a business center. The US promised jobs and welfare for the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Then, Trump delivered his closing speech again and the event ended.

On his way off the stage, Trump briefly shook hands with President Prabowodan.
