JAKARTA - The plan for a meeting between US President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in Davos is unlikely to be implemented after Trump's flight was delayed.

The meeting between the two leaders was originally scheduled to take place on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos.

As reported by ANTARA, Reuters previously reported that the meeting had been canceled, before it was later corrected to be unlikely to occur due to Trump's travel constraints.

According to flight tracking data analyzed by the RIA Novosti news agency, the Boeing C-32A plane carrying Trump landed at Zurich Airport. However, the delay made Trump's schedule in Davos uncertain.

Earlier on the same day, German newspaper Bild reported, citing sources, that the German government had requested a meeting between Merz and Trump in Davos, with Washington said to have expressed interest.

Merz is scheduled to meet Trump after the US president's speech on the main stage of the conference center, which has dozens of small meeting rooms.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte is also reportedly planning to join the meeting, which is seen as important amid geopolitical tensions and debates over trans-Atlantic security commitments.

CNN reported that Trump left for Davos after being forced to change planes. CBS journalist Jennifer Jacobs said Trump was moved to a smaller plane after a technical glitch was detected on the original plane before departure to Davos.
