JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP Harian Gerindra Party, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, confirmed that Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono who entered the Bank Indonesia (BI) Deputy Governor candidate exchange was no longer a Gerindra Party cadre.
Dasco explained that in the National Congress (Munas) of the Gerindra Party, Thomas Djiwandono was no longer in the management structure and on December 31, 2025 he resigned from the party.
"So if you ask now, first it is not in the management, then the person concerned has submitted his resignation," Dasco said at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Wednesday, January 21, quoted by Antara.
He also conveyed that there were three names of potential BI Deputy who resigned.
The President, said Dasco, forwarded the letter from the Governor of BI regarding the deputy's resignation to the DPR so that the three names of the candidates for his replacement would be tested for suitability and decency.
"So, the proposed names are not from the President, but from the Governor of BI who is looking for a replacement for the deputy who resigned," said Dasco.
According to him, the proposal of three names, including Thomas Djiwandono, was decided by BI collectively. In that way, the proposal of the name of Thomas Djiwandono did not come from President Prabowo.
"So, how can a deputy make important decisions without being approved by others, it is impossible," said the Deputy Speaker of the DPR RI.
Previously, Secretary of State Prasetyo Hadi stated that the name of Deputy Minister of Finance Thomas Djiwandono was one of the candidates to replace the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia.
Prasetyo explained that the emergence of the name of the Deputy Minister of Finance began with the resignation letter submitted by the Deputy Governor of BI Juda Agung.
"So, regarding the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, it started from the resignation letter from one of the Deputy Governors," said Prasetyo at the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, Monday, January 19.
To note, Thomas Djiwandono, commonly called Tommy, is the first child of Soedradjad Djiwandono and Biantiningsih Miderawati, where his father is a former Governor of Bank Indonesia who now teaches at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. While his mother is the older sister of Prabowo Subianto.
