JAKARTA - A fire hit a tofu factory on Jalan Masjid Darul Falah RT 05/010, Petukangan Utara Village, Pesanggrahan District, South Jakarta.

A total of 70 personnel from the South Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) were deployed to put out the fire that occurred early Wednesday.

"After receiving information, we immediately deployed 16 fire trucks and 70 personnel to the location to prevent the fire from spreading to other buildings," said Head of the South Jakarta Fire Department (Sudin) Gulkarmat, Asril Rizal in Jakarta.

Asril said the report of the fire was received from residents at 00.28 WIB, when the fire was already in an enlarged state.

The factory building that burned was a semi-permanent building with an area of around 700 square meters (m2).

Officers managed to localize the fire at 01.38 WIB and continued with the cooling process. The extinguishing process was declared complete at 02.10.

"There were no casualties in this incident. The provisional suspicion is that the fire was caused by a gas leak during the cooking process," he said.

A local resident, Fidya, said the fire came from one of the stoves used to fry tofu. However, the fire suddenly grew and was difficult to control.

Initially, it wanted to be extinguished with water, but the fire got bigger. "We have asked for help from neighbors and tried to put it out with APAR, but it didn't work," he said.

Finally, residents contacted Gulkarmat officers. "Thank God, the process was quick so that the fire did not spread to other places," he said.

Residents appreciate the quick action of the Sudin Gulkarmat South Jakarta (Jaksel) officers who immediately arrived at the location so that the fire did not spread to other buildings.
