JAKARTA - A joint SAR team managed to evacuate five crew members (ABK) of a fishing boat that was stranded on Segama Island, East Lampung Regency (Lamtim) on Tuesday morning.

Head of the Bakauheni SAR Post, Rezie Kuswara, said the evacuation process was quite difficult due to bad weather and high waves.

"Alhamdulillah, the rescue of the victims of the fishing boat accident that leaked and sank around Segama Island, East Lampung, has been successfully evacuated," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, January 20.

He explained that the five fishermen who were stranded due to the ship's leak were residents of Keramat Village, Bakauheni District, South Lampung Regency.

"The five crew members, namely Muktar, Kadir, Samsul, Saldi, and Yaldi. They are all residents of Keramat Village," he said.

According to him, the SAR evacuation began when the team received a report from the community about fishermen who were stranded and needed help.

"On this day, the fishermen sailed from Bakauheni Port to go fishing, suddenly the weather was bad and hit by waves, so their boat leaked," he said.

He said that after receiving the report, the SAR team prepared equipment and departed for the location using the KN SAR Basudewa for the evacuation process.

"The captain of the ship contacted the family to inform the last position on Segama Island. The team immediately moved to the location where the victims were suspected of being stranded. The distance from Bakauheni to Segamakurang Island is more than three hours," he said.
