Eggi Sudjana and Damai Lubis Released as Suspects, Commission III of the DPR Hopes the Case of Jokowi's Fake Degree Will Be Resolved by Consultation

JAKARTA - Chairman of Commission III of the House of Representatives, Habiburokhman, responded to the termination of the case of alleged defamation of the false certificate of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) against two suspects, Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis. He hopes that this case can be resolved by consensus.

According to Habiburokhman, the termination of this case is also proof of Indonesia's new legal products working. He said that the application of the restorative justice (RJ) or reconciliation mechanism in the case was proof that the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and the Code of Criminal Procedure (KUHAP) had realized justice and the benefits of the law.

"Unlike in the past, where RJ was difficult to implement because it was not regulated in the old Criminal Code and Criminal Procedure Code, now the path of RJ is wide open because it is specifically regulated in both the new Criminal Code and the new Criminal Procedure Code," Habiburokhman told reporters, Saturday, January 17.

The Gerindra legislator from the DKI Jakarta District also appreciated the steps of the Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Asep Edi Suheri and his staff who had implemented the restorative justice mechanism in handling the case, until finally a letter of order to stop the investigation (SP3) was issued.

"We convey our salutations and respect to Mr. Jokowi and Mr. Eggy Sudjana who legowo abandoned their egos until peace and the termination of the investigation were realized," said Habiburokhman.

The head of the legal commission also hopes that other cases related to the issue of Jokowi's diploma can be resolved through the restorative justice mechanism.

"We hope that other cases related to Mr. Jokowi's diploma can also be resolved with RJ which is very appropriate with our culture, namely solving problems through deliberation," said Habiburokhman.

Previously, the Polda Metro Jaya was said to have issued a Letter of Termination of Investigation (SP3) for the case of alleged false diplomas of the 7th President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) for suspects Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis. With the issuance of this letter, the legal process against the two has been stopped.

Eggi Sudjana and Damai Hari Lubis were released from the status of suspects after meeting Jokowi in Solo on Thursday, January 8. After the meeting, a peaceful agreement through restorative justice (RJ) was realized. Even so, it is not known for sure what negotiations were between Eggi and Damai at the Solo residence.

It is known that the Metro Jaya Police has named eight suspects divided into the first and second clusters in the Jokowi diploma case. For the three suspects in the second cluster, it is confirmed that they will continue to be prosecuted by the Metro Jaya Police, marked by the transfer of the case file some time ago.

The three are former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Roy Suryo, Digital Forensics Expert Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, and Doctor Tifauziah Tyassuma alias Doctor Tifa.
