Rano Karno Wants to Build a Monorail in Ragunan, DPRD: There is No Budget Yet

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno is discussing the DKI Provincial Government will build a monorail in the Ragunan Wildlife Park (TMR) area. Responding to this, the DKI DPRD revealed that there was no budget that could be allocated to realize this plan.

Chairman of Commission D of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Yuke Yurike admitted that, to his knowledge, what was listed in the current planning was only limited to the arrangement and revitalization of the TMR area.

"Until now, there has been no special budget for the Ragunan monorail in the APBD. There is only a limit to the arrangement and revitalization of the TMR area, which is still in the planning and design stage," Yuke told reporters, Thursday, January 15.

He emphasized that the realization of the monorail development had not been carried out at all. According to Yuke, the plan will still be discussed further, including its financing scheme, given the limited capacity of the DKI Jakarta Regional Budget.

"The physical realization has not been carried out. In the future, this plan will be discussed in more detail, including the possibility of cooperation with other parties, given the limitations of the APBD," he said.

Yuke added that alternative financing options or creative financing could be one way, as long as it does not harm the local government and does not create problems for assets owned by the DKI Provincial Government.

"The alternative, financing or creative financing is important, as long as it does not harm the local government and is safe for DKI Jakarta assets," he said.

Even so, Yuke assessed that the discussion of the monorail in Ragunan must be preceded by careful planning and study, especially from the perspective of its function and benefits for the community.

"Of course, the planning and study must be seen first. If the path and function can help reduce congestion and increase public access to the Ragunan Wildlife Park, of course we will discuss it," said Yuke.

He also touched on Ragunan's position as a people's amusement park that has been easily accessible and affordable. According to him, as long as the monorail plan is in line with the revitalization of the area and supported by good research results, the DPRD opens up room to consider it.

Previously, Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Rano Karno revealed plans to build a monorail transportation mode to the Ragunan Wildlife Park area. This monorail is part of the arrangement of the DKI Provincial Government's zoo.

"We have plans to revitalize Ragunan. There is a plan for Ragunan, we will make something like what, what is the term, train, monorail," said Rano some time ago.

Rano said that the discourse on the construction of a monorail to Ragunan emerged to reduce congestion in the area. Considering that, on weekends, the high number of people visiting Ragunan for recreation often causes traffic congestion.

Later, one of the concepts of arranging Ragunan is directed at rearranging visitor access by moving the parking area outside the main area. Visitors will park their vehicles in the Ragunan Scout Camp area, then continue on to the zoo area using a monorail.

"So later the parking area will be in front, at the scout place, later people if they want to go to Ragunan will take the monorail," he said.

Rano assessed that monorail was the choice because it was considered environmentally friendly and did not interfere with the animal ecosystem within the Ragunan area.

He added that the monorail line is also planned to be integrated with the surrounding area to address access and congestion issues, especially during weekends.

"Because here the infrastructure, friends see coming here, the road is narrow, all kinds, jammed, especially on Sundays, wow, it's crowded, it has to be found," said Rano.
