JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) recorded the number of deaths due to flooding and landslides in Aceh Province, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra at the end of November 2025 reaching 1,189 people. This figure is the result of updating data until the beginning of this week.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information, and Communication Center, Abdul Muhari in Jakarta, Wednesday, January 14, said the death toll consisted of 550 people in Aceh Province, 375 people in North Sumatra, and 231 people in West Sumatra. Meanwhile, another 33 victims are still in the process of identification, both in terms of identity data and the location of discovery.

In addition to causing casualties, the hydrometeorological disaster also has a wide impact on people's lives. BNPB recorded 141 people were declared missing, while 195,542 people were forced to evacuate to safer places due to damage to houses and the threat of continued disasters.

Among the affected areas, North Aceh Regency became the area with the highest number of refugees, reaching 67,876 people. This condition is influenced by the extent of the flood-affected area, infrastructure damage, and disruption of logistical access and basic services.

Abdul Muhari explained that the government was not only focusing on updating data on victims and the impact of disasters during the emergency status still in force in a number of areas. The central government together with the local government has also extended the emergency response period in six regencies in Aceh Province, while ensuring acceleration of recovery in the transition phase from emergency to rehabilitation in dozens of regencies and cities in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

In this recovery phase, BNPB prioritizes the recovery of vital infrastructure which supports community activities and the distribution of assistance. One of the strategic steps taken is the construction of 270 bailey bridges spread across three affected provinces.

"Until now, 20 units of bailey bridges have been installed, while the other 10 units are still in the process of being installed," said Abdul Muhari in his statement.

He added, especially in Aceh Province, the government has sent 117 units of Aramco bridges to accelerate the recovery of access to areas that had been isolated due to the interruption of transportation routes. One of the bridges that has been functioning is the Jamur Ujung bailey bridge in the Bireuen-Takengon section, which can now be traversed by four-wheel vehicles.

Meanwhile, the assembly process of the Krueng Pelang Bridge in Central Aceh Regency has reached 80%. The construction was accompanied by river normalization activities, mud cleaning, and improvement of public facilities carried out in an integrated manner by TNI, Polri, and local government elements.

BNPB emphasized that accelerating the recovery of infrastructure and basic services is the key to supporting the return of community activities, while minimizing social and economic risks after the disaster. The government also continues to urge the public to remain vigilant against the potential for subsequent disasters, given that extreme weather conditions are still likely to occur in a number of areas.
