JAKARTA - The Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei uploaded a picture of an ancient pharaoh who mocked US President Donald Trump, warning that he would have the same fate as past tyrants.
The image shared on Khamenei's official account on the X platform showed a pharaonic-style sarcophagus that appeared to be collapsing with a face resembling Trump, accompanied by the words "Like the Pharaoh."
In a Persian-language message accompanying the post, Khamenei said arrogant rulers who tried to dominate the world, such as Pharaoh, Nimrod, Reza Khan, and Mohammad Reza, eventually fell when they were at the peak of power.
"This one will also be dropped," he said, referring to Trump as reported by ANTARA from Anadolu, Monday, January 12.
The post came after Trump threatened Iran's leaders, including statements attributed to the wave of protests and internal turmoil in the country.
Iran has been rocked by demonstrations since December 28 in Tehran following the collapse of the Iranian rial exchange rate and the worsening economic conditions. Demonstrations then spread to a number of other cities.
There are no official data on the number of casualties. However, the Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA), an US-based human rights group, estimates that at least 544 people have been killed, including security forces and demonstrators, and more than 1,000 people have been injured.
HRANA also reported 10,681 protesters were detained in 585 locations across the country, which includes 186 cities in 31 provinces.
Meanwhile, at least 109 Iranian security personnel have been killed in the riots in recent days, according to an Al Jazeera report on Sunday, citing Iran's Tasnim News Agency.
