JAKARTA - A man with the initials JH (37) from East Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, is a suspect related to the Information and Electronic Transaction Law (ITE) for spreading a video of his ex-girlfriend on social media.
Head of Unit I Subdit V Ditreskrimsus Polda NTB AKP Regi Halili revealed that JH's actions from the results of the title of the case allegedly had fulfilled the elements of the crime in Article 27 paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2024 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE).
"The threat of punishment is six years in prison with a fine of up to Rp1 billion," he said in Mataram, Monday, quoted by Antara.
Regi explained that the motive for the suspect to spread the video of his ex-girlfriend's syur was because he was hurt. The suspect did not accept when the victim chose to end their romantic relationship.
"His girlfriend wanted to break up, but the perpetrator didn't accept it. Hurt, this perpetrator then spread the video containing his girlfriend's immorality to social media," he said.
The victim's syur video was obtained by the suspect while still in a relationship in mid-May 2024. The suspect then made a "video call" with the victim via the WhatsApp application.
"During the 'video call', the suspect secretly recorded the screen, at that time the victim was naked," he said.
Because he felt depressed with the video of his syur being spread on social media, the victim finally reported to the NTB Police.
"Following up on the report, we started an investigation and found the suspect at his home in East Lombok," he said.
With the support of personnel from the East Lombok Police, suspect JH was successfully secured without resistance at his home.
"The cellphone used to spread the victim's syur video has also been seized and made into evidence," said Regi.
From the results of the investigation, he revealed that the suspect had admitted his actions.
Due to this case, Regi appealed to the public not to immediately commit immoral acts to someone, considering that there are already legal regulations prohibiting this.
