East Lombok - The East Lombok Police, West Nusa Tenggara, have secured six illegal immigrants from Afghanistan and Africa who are suspected of being deported abroad through Tanjung Luar, Ekas Buana Village, the local area.

"The immigrants are planning to be taken to the Maringkik Island area because the ship that will take them is waiting there," said Public Relations Officer of the East Lombok Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police Nicolas Osman, quoted by Antara, Monday, January 12.

He said the number of illegal migrants secured was six people, along with a local resident who escorted them.

In addition to securing the immigrants, the police have also secured a ship that is suspected of being used to transport immigrants out of Tanjung Luar, East Lombok Regency.

"This case is still under investigation," he said.

Meanwhile, Suhadi, a resident who escorted the immigrants, said that he was only asked to take the people to Tanjung Luar and did not know that they were illegal immigrants.

"I was asked to deliver it for a fee of Rp. 100 thousand, I didn't know that they were illegal immigrants," he said.

According to Suhadi, the illegal immigrants had stayed for three nights at one of the homestays in the Ekas Buana Village area and the homestay owner called him to take them to Tanjung Luar area.

However, when he arrived at Tanjung Luar, the person who was going to pick him up had not come. However, while waiting, suddenly the police came and immediately secured the immigrants so that he was taken to the police station along with the immigrants.

"I was shocked when I was arrested because I was only asked to deliver," he said.

Police are still investigating the case and have not provided further information on the identity of the illegal immigrants and their destinations.
