JAKARTA - The condition of the Muara Karang Market building in Pluit, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, which is around 30 years old is increasingly worrying. In fact, half of the building can no longer operate.

However, the buying and selling activity in the market is still in demand by the community. The enthusiasm of the residents to shop is also very high. The market was finally revitalized.

"Jakpro has initiated to be able to build this new Muara Karang Market, to provide better services to users and of course to optimize Jakpro's assets," said Project Director for the Revitalization of the Muara Karang Market, Luky Ismayanti, in Jakarta, Saturday, January 10, 2026.

The revitalization of the market is to create a more modern, comfortable, and sustainable market environment for traders and visitors.

In addition, market revitalization to strengthen the role of the market as an economic center, while adding value to the company's assets.

Luky explained that the revitalization process began by building a temporary market to accommodate 243 old tenants and 47 new traders. The total number of traders operating will reach 290 people.

"After finishing the temporary market, we relocated the traders. We demolished the assets for about two months," he said.

So, from the demolition in August 2025, it is targeted that this project will be completed in August 2026. This project has a budget of around IDR 138 billion, with a land area of 5,120 square meters and a building area of around 12,200 square meters.

He said the construction process was targeted to be completed within 12 months by presenting a new building as high as six floors, an increase from the previous four floors.

After completion, the market is planned to be able to accommodate up to 384 tenants.

The first floor is specifically designed as a parking area with a capacity of around 91 cars and some motorcycles. The second floor of the market is used as a wet market area as well as a gold kiosk with a clear division of zones.

Meanwhile, the third and fourth floors are filled with large tenants and dry kiosks. The fifth floor is used as a food court area, and the sixth floor is planned as a sports hall that is expected to remain active until evening.

It is known that Muara Karang is a densely populated area on the north coast of Jakarta and has long been known as a bustling seafood distribution center and culinary paradise.

With the revitalization of the market, it is expected to further increase trading activities and encourage growth in the Jakarta coastal area.
