JAKARTA - The National Police Traffic Corps (Korlantas) has started operating an electronic traffic law enforcement (ETLE) drone called the ETLE Drone Precision Patrol to strengthen modern, transparent, and fair traffic law enforcement.

Head of Korlantas (Kakorlantas) Polri Irjen Agus Suryonugroho said the use of drones was a form of commitment by Korlantas in presenting an objective, professional, and minimal direct interaction with the community.

"We use this Precision Patrol Drone ETLE to reach vulnerable points of violations that have been difficult to monitor as well as a preventive effort to increase awareness and discipline for people to travel," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, January 10.

Agus explained that drone technology has a number of advantages, namely surveillance from the air in real time, accurate, and well documented. In this way, any violations can be taken action on the basis of valid data and avoid potential deviations in the law enforcement process.

The operation of the Precision Patrol Drone ETLE began on Friday (9/1) involving a special team from the National Police Headquarters.

The first activity was carried out in the Cibubur Highway area with a focus on monitoring vehicle traffic and traffic violations at vulnerable points.

Based on the initial data of the implementation, said Agus, in a short time 18 traffic violations were recorded by the ETLE drone camera.

The violations were dominated by two-wheeled drivers who did not comply with basic safety rules that could potentially endanger themselves and other road users.

He also emphasized that the operation of the ETLE Drone Precision Patrol was not solely for enforcement, but also as a means of education and early warning for the community to be more obedient to traffic rules.

"Safety is a common need. With traffic discipline, we can reduce the number of violations and accidents on the highway. The National Police will continue to innovate and be consistent in supporting the realization of kamseltibcarlantas (safety, security, order, and traffic flow) throughout Indonesia," he said.
