JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP PDI Perjuangan (PDIP) Ganjar Pranowo assessed that people who reject the regional head election (pilkada) through the DPRD are a reflection of voters who are increasingly critical and politically aware.
Ganjar's statement was made in response to the results of the Lingkaran Survei Indonesia (LSI) Denny JA survey which showed that the majority of people did not agree if the election was held through the DPRD.
According to Ganjar, the public's attitude indicates that voters are no longer pragmatic. In addition, voters are increasingly rejecting the practice of money politics, which is often used as an excuse to remove the direct gubernatorial election system.
"Voters can be critical by checking ideas that are not appropriate through dialogue, as well as rejecting the pragmatism of political money," said Ganjar, Friday, January 9.
He emphasized that the direct pilkada system should not be abolished, but rather it should be improved in its implementation. One of the efforts to improve it that he highlighted was the preparation of prospective leaders through party cadres, both before and during the nomination.
Ganjar also alluded to various survey results and the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which consistently wanted direct elections to be maintained. "If we want to read the MK's decision regarding direct elections, listen to the opinions of experts, or look at the survey results, then our next task is to improve its implementation," he said.
