Government Plans Pension Fund for Athletes and Coaches

JAKARTA - Youth and Sports Minister (Menpora) Erick Thohir stated that President Prabowo Subianto had ordered him to prepare retirement funds for athletes and coaches who have made Indonesia proud.

"Earlier when shaking hands with all the athletes, I asked them one-on-one about their career plans in the future, and he immediately instructed me to prepare funds for the retirement of athletes and coaches in the future," said Erick as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, January 8.

Erick still has not explained the pension fund scheme for athletes and coaches.

However, Erick thanked Prabowo for appreciating athletes and coaches for preparing retirement funds, not just bonuses.

"The president really encourages us to achieve, to raise the red and white flags, and also to be appreciated with bonuses as a note for savings. This is amazing, so I believe that our sport will continue to grow," said Erick.

The government has just given a bonus of Rp. 1 billion to athletes who bring home the gold medal at the 2025 Thailand SEA Games.

This bonus is the highest in history given by the government to the SEA Games gold medalists.

The bonus value for gold medalists also doubled from the previous SEA Games in Cambodia when the government awarded Rp. 500 million for gold medalists.

This bonus is in line with the achievements of the Red and White team during the 2025 SEA Games.

Indonesia won 91 gold medals out of a total of 333 medals. This not only exceeded the target, but also brought Indonesia to the second place. This success broke Indonesia's bad record when it did not host the SEA Games.
