TARAKAN - The North Kalimantan Provincial Government (Pemprov) has strengthened the protection of women and children through official cooperation with the Ministry of Empowerment of Women and Child Protection (PPPA).

This agreement was confirmed through the signing of a memorandum of understanding to accelerate the implementation of national programs in the region including Kaltara.

The Governor of Kaltara, Zainal Arifin Paliwang, said that this collaboration between the center and the region is the key to answering the challenges of protecting vulnerable groups that are still occurring in the field, including violence against women and children and limited access to protection services.

"This cooperation must be translated into policies and programs that are directly felt by the community, not stopping at administrative documents," said Zainal, Thursday, November 8.

"We (the Provincial Government) encourage all district governments (Pemkab) and city governments (Pemkot) to align regional policies with the priority programs of the Ministry of PPPA, while strengthening the role of regional device organizations (OPD) and community participation," he continued.

Zainal emphasized that the approach to future development must place women, children, and inclusion groups as subjects, not just beneficiaries.

"Such as providing a safe space, strengthening the system of preventing violence, to improving the quality of support services," he said.

He hopes that this cooperation will strengthen cross-sectoral coordination in accelerating the achievement of a safe and inclusive environment in this 34th province.

"This is in line with the national target of empowering women and protecting children. The visit of the Minister of PPPA RI to Tarakan is also part of efforts to strengthen the synergy between the center and the region to ensure that policies to protect women and children run effectively to the local level," he said.
