JAKARTA - The National Museum of Indonesia (MNI) officially implemented adjustments to the entrance ticket price starting January 1, 2026. This policy is carried out in line with the improvement of services, infrastructure updates, and the development of a more comfortable and modern visiting experience for the public.
Head of the Museum and Cultural Heritage (MCB), Esti Nurjadin, explained that the policy of adjusting ticket prices had actually been planned since August 2025. However, its implementation was only carried out after a number of supporting facilities were completed.
"We postpone until the facilities we have are ready, because previously it was still in the process. The BLU system is a public service with a business mindset, so service remains the main priority," said Esti, Wednesday, December 31.
A number of facility updates have been carried out, including the relocation of the entrance and ticket counter from Building A to Majapahit Hall which has a wider space. This change is aimed at improving visitor comfort and facilitating the flow of museum traffic.
In addition, the Indonesian National Museum is also preparing to convert the auditorium in the basement of the building into a mosque. The worship facility is targeted to be used by the end of January 2026.
"The process needs to pay attention to safety aspects, including emergency exits. Shaf we have prepared, only the place for wudhu is still in the stage of completion. It is hoped that it will be ready by the end of January," explained Esti.
The improvement of facilities also has an impact on the expansion of the non-ticket area. Previously, the area of the non-ticket area was only about 3,800 square meters, now it has been expanded to 8,100 square meters, including the rearrangement of the garden area in front of the museum facade.
"There are more non-ticket areas for the convenience of visitors. We also prepare a physical map as a souvenir and a ticket bracelet. This will be available starting January 3," said Esti.
In terms of content, the Indonesian National Museum does not only rely on permanent collections. Since mid-December 2025, MNI presents the Early History Exhibition which features four important findings of Eugene Dubois who has returned to Indonesia and has become part of the early narrative of human civilization.
Starting January 2026, the ImersifA space will also be updated with a new concept. The ticket system is now made more efficient with non-cash technology, such as tap in and payment through QRIS.
"Slowly we are fixing everything. Now the ticket system is faster without manual service," said Esti.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, Fadli Zon, said that adjusting ticket prices is part of an effort to build public appreciation for museums as educational and cultural spaces.
"To the general public, we will increase it, so that there is an appreciation for the museum. Especially for foreign tourists, so that they can see and appreciate our museum," he said.
For information, the price of tickets to the Indonesian National Museum is now set at Rp. 50 thousand for general visitors and Rp. 30 thousand for students. Children under the age of three and elderly visitors over 60 years old still get free access.
For foreign tourists (WNA), the ticket price is set at Rp. 150 thousand, while KITAS holders are charged a tariff of Rp. 50 thousand. This price does not include a ticket to the ImersifA room, which is priced at Rp. 35 thousand per person.
This ticket price adjustment policy has been controversial among the public. However, the management emphasized that the tariff increase was in line with the improvement in the quality of services and facilities that can now be enjoyed by visitors to the Indonesian National Museum.
