BANDUNG - Former West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil officially divorced his wife, who is also a member of the House of Representatives, Atalia Praratya, after the divorce application was granted by the Bandung Religious Court.
"I make this statement as a form of moral responsibility and clarification to the public regarding my divorce ruling with Atalia Praratya which has been legally decided through the legal process in accordance with applicable laws and regulations," said Ridwan Kamil as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, January 7.
Ridwan Kamil said that he and Atalia Praratya agreed to separate in a good way after going through a long process, including the mediation stage which was carried out openly and in good faith.
"We both agreed that parting amicably was the best path to take. This decision was made without open conflict, pressure, or the involvement of other parties," he said.
He is committed to maintaining a relationship of mutual respect, especially in carrying out their joint roles and responsibilities towards their two children.
"The interests and future of the child remain our priority for both of us and regarding the property, I and Mrs. Atalia have settled well since a long time ago," said Ridwan.
Ridwan admitted that during the almost 29 years of building a household, there were various mistakes and limitations from him which caused a number of misunderstandings that led to divorce.
"Therefore, I fully respect Atalia Praratya's decision as the right of every human being to fight for happiness and peace in his life," he said.
Meanwhile, Atalia Praratya emphasized that there was no other woman's name in the divorce lawsuit filed against her husband Ridwan Kamil at the Bandung Religious Court.
"Oh no. In the lawsuit there is no other woman's name involved," he said.
