JAKARTA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) has distributed 500 packages of basic food assistance to flood-affected people in the Ciwandan area, Cilegon City, Banten. The assistance was given following the flood that had flooded the residents' settlements and disrupted the main access to the industrial and port areas since Friday, January 2.

Group Head of Pelindo Company Secretariat, Ali Sodikin, said the distribution of assistance was the company's quick response to the direct impact of the flood felt by the community around the port area.

"The flood that occurred last night has a direct impact on people around the Ciwandan area, especially on access and daily activities of residents. Pelindo is present to help to alleviate the burden of affected people," said Ali Sodikin, Sunday, January 4.

The flooding occurred due to heavy rainfall that has been going on since Friday afternoon. Waterlogged areas spread across three sub-districts, namely Ciwandan, Cibeber, and Jombang, with the Ciwandan area, especially Kampung Kebanjiran, being one of the worst affected points.

The overflow of water also submerged a number of major roads, including the area in front of the Semen Factory to the South Ring Road (JLS), which is a strategic route connecting Anyer-Cilegon. This condition causes traffic to be jammed and hinders the mobility of residents.

Ali explained, Pelindo continues to ensure that port operational activities continue to run normally and safely.

"Until now, activities at the Ciwandan Port are going on as usual. We continue to monitor the field conditions and coordinate with the local government and related agencies to ensure that logistics access is maintained," he said.

He added, Pelindo continues to strengthen cross-sectoral coordination to support handling the impact of floods, especially in the area around the port. "This is important to reduce the impact on the community while maintaining the smooth operation of port activities," he explained again.
