KLUNGKUNG - There are 13 dolphins stranded on Batu Tumpeng Beach, Klungkung, Bali. One dolphin died from a wound on the fin.

"From 5 pm the community had evacuated and put the dolphins back into the sea. Until the evening we wait there. At 7 pm, the wound on his fin was last in and out and this morning he died, "said Head of BPBD Klungkung Bali Regency, Putu Widiada to reporters, Friday, May 28.

It is not yet known the cause of the strandings of a dozen dolphins. However, the sea wave conditions were quite high since Wednesday, 27 May.

"We do not yet know why the dolphins were stranded but yesterday we had waves and the waves were quite high there," he added.

Residents reported stranded dolphins at around 17.00 WITA, Thursday, May 27. The residents together with DPD officers try to push the dolphins into the sea.

In the early hours of Friday, May 28th, the dolphins were successfully pushed back into the sea. But this morning a dolphin was found dead with a wound in the fin.

There are allegations that dolphins were stranded on the coast of the Klungkung area, Bali due to the feomena of the tide after the lunar eclipse.

"It could be, because the tide was stranded," said Head of the Data and Information Division of the Center for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) Region III Denpasar, Dwi Hartanto.

The phenomenon of tides and high waves in Bali waters since Wednesday, May 26 until today, was triggered by a total eclipse. In addition, tidal flooding to the mainland occurred in several areas such as Kuta, Sanur and Klungkung.

"The phenomenon of tides is due to the influence of the eclipse. Second, the gravity of the earth and the sun. If the sun is shorter, it has an effect. That is because of the influence of the attraction of the sun and earth and also yesterday because of the eclipse. So the tide is high," he added.
