JAKARTA - Secretary of State (Mensesneg) Prasetyo Hadi explained that the government had prepared anticipation steps in mitigation to face the subsequent disasters in the Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra regions due to extreme weather.

"We have coordinated with the Ministry of Forestry (Kemenhut) to accelerate the process of cleaning the wood in the river so that there are no obstructions," said Prasetyo.

"We ask the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources to accelerate the cleaning process in the river streams so that there will be no obstruction from the wood yesterday like the first disaster," said Prasetyo as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, December 29.

"The government has asked that a mapping be carried out as soon as possible in areas that have extreme steepness or slope, especially in areas with soil types of mud or soft," said Mensesneg.

"Mapping these areas is important because different types of land exist between regions.

"By knowing the type of soil, it will be easier to anticipate, in order to avoid subsequent disasters," he said.

"The type that is sliding is at a level where the slope is quite high, and it is definitely the type of soil, including the type of soil that is muddy or soft, not the type of soil that is strong or rough," he said.

"The government is also working with the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) to match the results of the evaluation from BMKG to the regions predicted to experience increased rainfall.

"In addition, education to the community about rapid response when disasters occur needs to be more intensified.

"We ask for an educational process and notification to the public in the region that is predicted to experience an increase in rainfall. That's some of the mitigation we're doing," concluded Prasetyo.
