Commission III of the DPR asks the police to prosecute the perpetrators of the demolition of Grandma Elina's house in Surabaya

Member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Abdullah, highlighted the case of the demolition of a house and the forced eviction of a grandmother named Elina from her house in Surabaya, East Java, without going through a legitimate legal process. He urged the police to immediately process the case seriously and professionally, especially the prosecution of the perpetrators.

Abdullah emphasized that the demolition of the house was an act against the law because it was not based on a court decision.

"The demolition of residents' houses must not be carried out unilaterally, especially without a court ruling with the force of law. Our country is a state of law, not a state of power," Abdullah told reporters, Monday, December 29.

Abdullah also strongly condemned the eviction action allegedly carried out by a group of thugs in the name of community organizations (ormas). According to him, the practice of thuggery under the guise of ormas is a real threat to the sense of justice and security of the community.

"Premanism that hides behind the attributes of organizations should not be allowed to grow. This hurts the law and creates fear among the community, especially for small and vulnerable citizens like Grandma Elina," he said.

The member of the commission dealing with law, human rights, and security also asked the police to act decisively without discrimination. He emphasized that the perpetrators of demolition and eviction must be dragged into the legal realm so that there is a deterrent effect.

"I ask the police to immediately investigate this case thoroughly and drag the perpetrators to the legal process. Don't let the public lose confidence in the state because the law is defeated by the actions of hooliganism," said the legislator from the Central Java District.

Abdullah also reminded that the state has an obligation to protect the rights of citizens, including the right to a decent place to live and a sense of security.

"I hope that the case that befell Grandma Elina will be a serious concern for all parties so that similar incidents will not be repeated in the future," he concluded.
