JAKARTA - The construction of temporary housing (huntara) and permanent housing (huntap) for residents affected by floods and landslides in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra continues even though it has entered the new year. The government ensures that the process of preparing land to physical development is rushed in a number of areas.
Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK), Pratikno, conveyed this in a press conference on the daily development of handling flood and landslide disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, Thursday, December 25, 2025.
In Aceh Province, Pidie Jaya Regency has entered the huntara development phase. Meanwhile, the other six districts are still in the early stages of site preparation.
The six areas include Aceh Tamiang, North Aceh, Central Aceh, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah, and Bireuen. In this area, the process is still focused on land maturation until the opening of road access to the huntara location.
As for the other two regencies, namely East Aceh and Nagan Raya, they are still in the land identification stage for housing development.
Pratikno explained that the construction of huntara and huntap was carried out collaboratively between the Central Government, Regional Government, TNI, and Polri, with coordination under the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB).
"Preparation and acceleration for this huntara continue to be carried out, indeed one of the challenges in this process is land preparation. Again, land preparation is carried out by the Regional Government, the construction is carried out by the Central Government under the coordinator of BNPB," said Pratikno, quoted Friday, December 26, 2025.
Apart from the huntara, preparations for the construction of permanent housing have also begun, especially for residents whose settlements must be relocated. This includes a self-contained housing scheme built on land owned by residents.
For the North Sumatra region, four districts and cities have entered the huntara and huntap development phase. These areas are the City of Sibolga, North Tapanuli Regency, South Tapanuli, and Langkat.
Meanwhile, in West Sumatra, there are five regencies that are in the process of building huntara. South Coast Regency is building eight huntara units, Lima Puluh Kota Regency is building three kopels, Padang Pariaman Regency is building seven kopels or 17 huntara units, Tanah Datar Regency has one kopel, and Agam Regency has two kopels.
Outside the housing sector, Pratikno also conveyed the progress in handling road infrastructure. Of the total 81 national roads affected by disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra, 72 roads have resumed functioning.
Nine other roads are still in the handling and repair stage.
"The government continues to accelerate the handling of this road section and does not stop so that the connectivity and logistics services will run more smoothly," said Pratikno.
Recovery also targets the education sector. The government targets that schools affected by disasters can resume operations in the first week of January 2026.
Pratikno conveyed this target after seeing that around 65 percent of schools were ready to operate after the post-disaster cleaning and revitalization.
"The President's instructions to all levels of the Central Government and Regional Government are very clear, very firm so that everyone continues to work tirelessly to deploy all national resources to accelerate disaster handling in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra."
"People's lives and livelihoods can be restored and even improved, that is the order of the President that we must carry out as best we can," he said.
In the midst of the still dynamic weather conditions, the Government also optimizes the Weather Modification Operation (OMC) through BNPB, BMKG, and TNI-Polri to reduce the intensity of rainfall in the affected areas.
