JEMBER - The Jember Regency Government (Pemkab) in East Java together with the Jember District Attorney's Office sealed three businesses because one of them was in arrears with taxes of up to billions of rupiah.
"We take firm action against a number of business actors who are negligent in fulfilling their tax obligations," said Head of Verification and Regional Revenue Control of the Regional Revenue Agency (Bapenda) Jember Arief Yudho Prasetyo as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, December 23.
A joint team from the Finance Bureau, the Police Pamong Praja Unit and the Jember District Court carried out the affixing of warning stickers (sealing) at three locations of large businesses, namely hotels and restaurants, because they were in arrears with taxes that were their obligation.
The three business units that were the target of the action were the JL Hotel, E Coffee Shop, and F Restaurant. This step was taken after the persuasive efforts made by the local government did not bear fruit.
"The arrears from the three places are quite significant, especially in the hotel and restaurant tax sector," he said.
He said the JL Hotel had a tax arrears of approximately Rp. 4.3 billion and the F Restaurant had arrears of around Rp. 200 million which had accumulated since 2023 to 2025.
"We regret this very much, especially since one of the tax objects (F) is located right in front of the Bapenda office. In terms of responsibility, there is a tax obligation that is not fulfilled by them," he said.
Arief explained that Bapenda had carried out all procedures in accordance with legal provisions, starting from data collection, verification, to active collection.
In this process, he continued, Bapenda was also accompanied by the Jember District Prosecutor's Office as a form of strengthening the law and intensive efforts to secure regional finances.
He said the local government had provided many facilities for taxpayers, including the implementation of an online reporting system (online) through the installation of a sync box in every hotel and restaurant.
"Payment is now very easy with an online system and a wide payment channel, so there is no longer any reason not to report and deposit the tax that has actually been collected from the public," he said.
Meanwhile, the hotel and restaurant whose location was sealed have not been confirmed regarding the unpaid tax arrears to the local government.
