JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has sent humanitarian aid for residents affected by disasters in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. A total of 27 tons of aid was released directly by the Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung from the Jakarta City Hall today.
The assistance was sent using 10 trucks and a number of minibus vehicles. The dispatched logistics contained basic needs of disaster-affected residents, ranging from food packages, hygiene supplies, clothing, medicine, tarpaulins, to other urgent needs.
During the activity, Pramono expressed his appreciation to the parties involved in the collection and delivery of assistance. He said that collaboration between the government, zakat institutions, and the business world was an important factor in the collection of humanitarian assistance.
"On behalf of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, we express our appreciation. Hopefully, what we are doing today can benefit our brothers and sisters who are still affected by floods in Aceh, West Sumatra, and North Sumatra. From this collaboration, funds amounting to around Rp. 3 billion have been collected, all of which have been channeled as a form of humanitarian contribution," said Pramono.
The collection of assistance involves 22 Zakat Management Organizations (OPZ) which are members of the DKI Jakarta Zakat Forum (FOZ) and the Indonesian Cargo Entrepreneurs Association (IPCN). The assistance collected comes from donations from the public and humanitarian institutions.
Pramono assessed that cross-sector humanitarian work needed to continue to be strengthened, especially in emergency disaster situations. According to him, geographical distance should not be an obstacle to providing assistance to other affected areas.
"This collaboration shows that humanitarian work will be stronger when the government, zakat institutions, the business world, and the community walk together in the spirit of mutual help as a national strength," he said.
In addition to sending aid to the Sumatra region, Pramono also conveyed the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government's plan to continue raising donations ahead of the new year. The donations are not only intended for the Sumatra region, but also other areas affected by disasters.
"Welcoming the new year, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will open a donation package that is not only intended for people affected by disasters in Sumatra, but is also allocated for other areas such as West Java and Central Java which also experience the impact of disasters," concluded Pramono.
