JAKARTA - The Consulate of the Republic of Indonesia (KRI) Songkhla held a socialization and mental health recovery after a natural disaster for Indonesian citizens (WNI) in southern Thailand.

The activity held last weekend was attended by dozens of Indonesian citizens living in the working area of the KRI Songkhla, especially in the five southernmost provinces of Thailand which were affected by the heavy floods last November.

The Indonesian Consul in Songkhla, Winardi Hanafi Lucky, said attention to mental health is an important part of the post-disaster response.

"Natural disasters not only leave physical impacts, but also psychological pressure that is often overlooked. Through this activity, KRI Songkhla wants to ensure that affected Indonesian citizens receive the understanding and support needed to recover completely," Consul Lucky explained in his statement, as quoted Tuesday (23/12).

The activity aims to increase understanding of the impact of natural disasters on mental health, including stress, anxiety, and trauma, as well as introducing recovery steps that survivors can take.

Participants are also equipped with strategies for managing emotions, the importance of social support, and access to professional assistance if needed.

The activity took place interactively with discussion sessions and sharing stories and experiences between participants. The enthusiasm of the participants was seen from their active involvement in conveying the conditions they experienced after the flood, as well as providing moral support to each other.

Through this program, KRI Songkhla hopes that Indonesian citizens in disaster-affected areas will be more aware of the importance of maintaining mental health and not hesitate to seek help, and continue to increase disaster awareness.

KRI Songkhla emphasized its commitment to continue to provide assistance and protection for Indonesian citizens in its work area.

During the flood disaster last November, there were no recorded casualties and the KRI Songkhla had managed to handle at least 341 Indonesian nationals affected.

For Indonesian citizens who need more information or assistance, KRI Songkhla can be contacted via hotline +66 818 978 350.
