Babel Deputy Governor Hellyana Named Suspect in Alleged Use of Fake Degree

JAKARTA - The Directorate of General Crime (Dittipidum) of the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police has named the Deputy Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands (Babel), Hellyana, as a suspect in the case of alleged use of a fake diploma. The determination of the suspect adds to the long list of cases of alleged falsification of academic documents involving public officials.

The certainty of Hellyana's legal status was conveyed by the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) of the National Police's Divhumas, Brigjen Pol Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, in Jakarta, Monday, December 22.

"Yes, it is true (a suspect was appointed)," said Trunoyudo, quoted from Antara.

However, Trunoyudo has not disclosed in detail the chronology and the continued development related to the designation of Hellyana as a suspect in the case.

Based on the letter of determination of the suspect received by the investigators, Hellyana is suspected of committing the crime of forgery of letters and/or forgery of authentic deeds and the use of an academic title that is suspected to be incorrect. In this case, the investigators framed Hellyana with a number of layered articles.

Hellyana is suspected of Article 263 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) and/or Article 264 of the Criminal Code concerning the Falsification of Letters and Authentic Acts. In addition, he was also charged with Article 93 of Law Number 12 of 2012 concerning Higher Education and/or Article 69 of Law Number 20 of 2003 concerning the National Education System.

This case began with a report that was received by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police in July 2025. At that time, Hellyana was reported for allegedly using a fake diploma by a student of the Bangka Belitung University named Ahmad Sidik.

The report was received by the Dittipidum Bareskrim Polri with registration number LP/B/339/VII/2025/SPKT/BARESKRIM POLRI. In his report, Sidik revealed that there was an alleged discrepancy in Hellyana's education data.

Sidik explained that Hellyana claimed to have graduated from Azzahra University in 2012. However, based on a search in the Higher Education Database (PD Dikti) system owned by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, Science, and Technology (Kemendiktisaintek), Hellyana was actually listed as a student of Azzahra University in 2013 and was inactive since 2014.

According to Sidik, the discrepancy in the data needs to be thoroughly investigated to ensure the validity of academic documents used by public officials.

On this basis, Sidik reported Hellyana with the suspicion of forgery of letters and the use of academic titles that were allegedly not valid. Until now, the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police is still continuing the investigation process to uncover the entire construction of the alleged false diploma case.
