NAGAN RAYA - The Nagan Raya Regency Government, Aceh, is still operating one public kitchen to serve the daily food needs of flood-affected communities in Beutong Ateuh Banggalang District.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Nagan Raya, Irfanda Rinaldi, said the communal kitchen operates every day to serve refugees, volunteers, and workers building emergency bridges at the disaster site.

"This communal kitchen is still being used to serve the food needs of some of the flood victims," Irfanda told ANTARA, Monday, December 22.

According to him, this communal kitchen is an important part of meeting the basic needs of affected residents. Every day, more than 200 people receive food assistance from the communal kitchen.

"Including for volunteers and construction workers of emergency bridges who are currently at the location of the flash flood disaster," he said.

Irfanda added that the provision of safe and nutritious food and beverages was a priority. This is to prevent the risk of diseases that can be caused by food that is not suitable for consumption in the midst of an emergency situation.

"The presence of a public kitchen from the government is also expected to reduce the risk of diseases caused by unsafe food and drinks," he said.

In addition, Irfanda said the existence of a communal kitchen also helped improve the welfare and quality of life of displaced residents, as well as contributing to the recovery of the physical and mental conditions of flood survivors.

"With the public kitchen, it is hoped that it can help the community to meet their basic needs and recover from the post-disaster conditions," he said.

Previously, flash floods hit Beutong Ateuh Banggalang District, causing infrastructure damage and isolating a number of areas. The construction of emergency bridges and the delivery of logistical assistance continues to be carried out by the government and the joint team.
